bethesda modern
elevated family home
in good form
Just off the main entrance of this Maryland family home, you can already get a sense of the material-rich furnishings of this home. Highly reflective surfaces cozy up next to boucle chairs, curved sofas and amorphous coffee tables.
Though this home is far from being small, the combination of its decor and architectural features, including French doors, transom windows, and thick paneled doorways, creates a visually cozy experience. Negative space is purposefully minimized, adding to the overall depth. To ensure a cohesive look, it was crucial to keep elements like doors, windows, mullions, and fireplaces (to name a few) perfectly aligned and parallel despite the multitude of angles in the space.
dramatic details
From the oversized Elton John print in the dining room (over a sumptuously textured wallpaper) to the peak of the vaulted ceiling in the family room–there are moments of drama. Not least in trying to get the full height in the frame while maintaining the integrity of the panelling and window seats without distortion. And perhaps even involving a contortionist-like pose to achieve the perfect shot.
it’s geometric
A cheery children’s room with plenty of softness, patterns and a multitude of geometric light fixtures.
