This historic townhome from the 1900s was updated with a modern touch by Fowlkes Design Studio, a Washington, DC based architecture and design firm. We took advantage of the rainy winter day to create a sense of mood and drama throughout the space that would present well in the final images. The sky lights created a giant softbox that hit the central staircase to create a sense of warmth. This ‘statement stair’ is full of angles with it’s gently sloped stair tread, wall panels, glass dividers–it’s certainly an architectural and artistic statement worth capturing…

The varying tones of the spaces each had their own forms and textures that brought personality to the space and created some vignettes that we could play with. We used wider shots to show the flow between spaces, and tighter more intimate vignettes to bring the details to life.
