warm, masculine modern renovation
catching the glow
Photographing the exterior of this Rock Creek home was about capturing the layers—the sunlit landscaping, the warm, inviting décor, and the lush trees beyond. The challenge lay in translating this into a single frame. By carefully balancing light, shadow, and perspective, we were able to showcase how this house harmoniously nestles within its tree-filled surroundings, earning its place in AD Italia and other publications.
While the home was designed to let ‘nature take center stage,’ it was equally important to showcase the intricate details of the decor and architectural features, striking a balance where no single element overwhelmed the others.
subtle variation
The play of light and shadow brings the clay-finished bedroom walls to life, highlighting their subtle texture and natural imperfections. The shadows accentuate the organic quality of the surface, adding depth and warmth to the space.
The multifunctional, interconnected space, featuring a game room, bar, and lounge, seamlessly flows together in this expansive (and surprisingly well-lit) basement.
the dark side
While most of the home carries a subtly masculine vibe with warm woods and a palette of browns, blacks, grays, tans, and creams, a few rooms fully embrace the depth of these tones. The result is a material-rich ambiance that radiates warmth and sophistication.
pastel pattern
Even within the home’s more subdued palette, there was room to highlight the playful patterns (and pop of pastel) woven into the children’s spaces, adding a touch of whimsy and charm.
Dark modern exteriors are embraced by the outdoors and dappled light.
